Amsoil vs. Mobil1

Amsoil vs Mobil 1 The Debate Continues, but the Winner is Obvious

Download our new oil shootout and see how your oil stacks up to Amsoil's 10W-30

Amsoil's extended drain technology is one reason why Amsoil is leading the way in the race for the best synthetic oil.  Amsoil has invested the time, money and research to produce the #1 synthetic oil on the market.  Amsoil's extended drain capabilities of 25,000-miles between oil changes are gaining in popularity and is a full 10,000 miles more than Mobil's best product.  It's no wonder the search term Amsoil vs Mobil 1 is one of google's most searched.

Now that most car manufacturer's are coming off their decades old recommendation of changing your oil every 3,000-miles consumers are looking for better options to not only save time and money, but to also protect their investment.

Even though the price of petroleum oil is considerably less than Amsoil, your 3,000 mile oil changes are actually costing you a whole lot more.  With the average cost of a regular oil change costing $30-$35 and most consumers needing at least 3 or 4 per year you can easily spend over $100.00 yearly on oil changes.  Plus the fact you have to make 4 trips/year to get this annoying chore done, your time must be worth something.

The inconvenience of 3 or 4 oil changes every year is one reason why Amsoil's popularity is growing at a 15-20% rate every year.  Let's face it, it's not just money you are interested in saving, you like saving time too.  And with Amsoil's 25,000-mile or 1-year oil changes you can save a considerable amount of time and get the best protection for your engine.

Other Synthetic Oils on the market are mostly marketing hype with very little if any science and/or testing behind their products.  Everyone assumes synthetics are better given their higher intial price, but what are you really getting when you purchase synthetic oil?  Most quick lubes still tell you that you need to come back in 5,000-miles.  Is this really a benefit when you're paying nearly twice as much for an oil change?

Smart consumers gravitate towards quality so the price of Amsoil isn't a problem because with a 25,000-mile interval it's clear there is tremendous value in this product.  Nobody minds paying more for a product if the company that makes it can deliver on it's promise, which Amsoil has been doing since 1972.

Considering your choices on the market today the top brands appear to be Pennzoil, Castrol and Mobil 1.  Neither Pennzoil or Castrol will commit to a specified drain interval other than to say you could go 5,000 miles.  Mobil 1 has stepped up to the plate recently and are now offering a 15,000-mile oil drain interval, but still no where close to Amsoil's 25,000-mile interval.

Pennzoil and Castrol have very little if any Group IV basestocks in their formula's and Mobil 1 has actually decreased the amount of Group IV in their's.  Having a solid formula using Group IV basestocks is one reason why Amsoil can achieve longer drain intervals.  Amsoil also uses a unique additive package that no other oil company is willing to duplicate.

Mobil 1 is a decent oil and in fact I personally used Mobil 1 from 1992-1996, which is when I discovered Amsoil.  One thing about Mobil that I never understood is that their formula kept changing and each time it did the oil performed worst than the old formula.  Why did they do this?  Just follow the money.  As technology changed so did basestocks and Mobil 1 started using cheaper less robust basestocks, which of course caused a decline in performance.

The best way to find out which oil is best is to simply use it.  Most people that have already tried other brands of synthetic oil soon find out after switching their vehicle's over to Amsoil that there really is no comparision at all.  Amsoil's clear advantage is noticed immediately even if you're already using Mobil 1 and I know because I used it for the better part of 4 years.

One thing to look for is the increase in fuel mileage.  Amsoil users average a 3-8% increase in fuel mileage even if you're using Mobil 1.  If you're driving 15,000-18,000 miles/year you can easily pocket and extra $200 in fuel savings over the course of one year.  As you can see the benefits just keep adding up and we haven't even talked about less wear on the internal components, reduction of at least 20-30 degrees in operating temperature and easier cold weather start ups.
