Switching your vehicle over to Amsoil for the first time.

Switching your vehicle over to Amsoil:

First let's dispell a few myths or disbeliefs that have floated around for a few years to ease your mind about switching over to Amsoil.

  • There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that once you switch to Amsoil or any other synthetic oil you can't switch back to petroleum oil.
  • Synthetic Oils cause your engine to leak:  False. This is also a myth that has spread over the years. In the event there is some leakage then the likely cause is when Amsoil came in contact with sludge and cleaned it out, it may leak, but eventually will stop.  This will normally slow once our seal swelling agent takes affect.
  • In the event you have to mix Amsoil with another lubricant whether it is synthetic or petroleum it is perfectly safe.  The only disadvantage to this is you will shorten the intended drain interval of Amsoil, but it will not cause any harm to your engine.
  • Switching to Amsoil will void your new car warranty: False. This is the oldest myth that has floated around for years and is simply not true.  In order for your warranty to be voided it must be done in writing stating the reason why.  To date this has never happened to anyone that has switched their vehicle over to Amsoil.
  • Ignoring your manufacturer's recommendation for a 3,000-5,000 mile oil change interval will void your warranty: False.  Probably the number one question we answer concerns our 25,000-mile or 1-year oil change interval.  Amsoil has been producing synthetic motor oil since 1972 with 25,000-mile intervals and these intervals have been accepted by every manufacturer without cause to worry about warranty issues.

(Examples of products shown below represnt the full retail price of Amsoil through the Amsoil Online Store.  Preferred Customers pay approximately 25% less after registering)

Step 1: Look up your vehicles information by using our Look-Up Guide.  You will find the proper recommendations and quantities of all the listed lubricants.

Step 2: We highly recommend using Amsoil's Engine Flush on your initial change to help speed up the process of removing sludge and varnish.  Once Amsoil has been installed it will continue the cleaning process.

Step 3: Make sure you order an Amsoil EaO-Oil Filter to gain the maximum advantage of Amsoil's 25,000-mile interval.  These filters were specifically designed to last the entire 25,000-mile or 1-year drain interval.

Step 4: It's a good idea to run a bottle of Amsoil's Performance Improver through your fuel tank.  This should be done every 4,000 miles to insure a properly maintained fuel system from tank to fuel injector's.

Step 5: For diesel owners you will need one bottle of Engine Flush for every 5 quarts of oil in your sump.  Diesel owners should also consider Amsoil's Diesel Concentrate, which will compensate for the ULSD diesel fuels lack of lubricity that lubricate your injector's and pumps and deliver incresed fuel mileage.

Keep a close eye on your oil level especially during the first 6 months when Amsoil is agressively cleaning your engine.  If you see a slight consumption during this period don't be alarmed this is typical on your first use with Amsoil.

Experiences over the last 13 years has shown that in higher mileage vehicle's it is appropriate to cut your first drain interval in half to about 10,000-12,000 miles to help accellerate the cleaning process.  This is merely a personal preference as we see the best results with this method, however every vehicle is different.  Give us a call for further details and tips.

It's also a good idea to start out with a clean air filter as a dirty air filter will speed up oil consumption.  Amsoil EaA-Air Filter's only need replacing once every 100,000 miles or 4 years.  Our specially designed filter can be cleaned with regular shop air or vacumm.  Learn more about Amsoil EaA-Airfilters.
